SUMMARY:BTSC 2nd Saturday January Dance featuring Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces!
DESCRIPTION:Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces!\nSaturday\, January 11\, 2025\nWar Memorial Building\, Balboa Park\n3325 Zoo Drive\, San Diego\n$15 \n6:30PM – Free dance lesson\n7:00-9:30PM – Band plays \nThe Bon Temps Social Club is very excited to bring Mitch back to San Diego (perhaps you have enjoyed him at Gator by the Bay)\, to the War Memorial which boasts a large and beautiful wooden dance floor. \nThe big guy from out West and larger than life energy (he’s also 6’5’) is a performer\, guitarist\, singer\, banjoist\, songwriter\, composer\, entertainer\, musical historian and teacher; Mitch Polzak wears his heart on his sleeve and his playing in his heart. \nThere is not one singular definition of Polzak’s music but that is very specific to what he does. Being fluent in the musical languages of Country\, Rockabilly\, Honky Tonk\, The Bakersfield Sound\, Surf\, early Rock and Roll\, Bluegrass\, Cajun\, Blues\, and Truck Driving music gives Polzak the unique voice of the melting pot of the American musical experience. This is why he consistently connects with so many people directly at every show and “reads the audience” for the music he brings each performance. \nPolzak learned firsthand from some of his musical influences\, sharing the stage with legends like Don Maddox of The Maddox Bros. and Rose\, deeply respected contemporary and friend Deke Dickerson\, The Ragin’ Cajun Doug Kershaw\, Rockabilly icons Joe Clay and Gene Summers\, former Bluegrass Boy and West Coast music pioneer Peter Rowan and Cajun greats Jimmy Breaux\, Andrew Carriere\, and Blake Miller. He has also shared the bill with Brian Setzer\, Jerry Lee Lewis\, Duane Eddy\, The Stray Cats\, Big Sandy and The Fly Rite Boys\, and Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives. \nHope to see you there!!

It’s the Bon Temps Social Club 31st Anniversary! \nWe will also celebrate our decades of passing a good time together at this dance. We encourage you to wear a Gator By The Bay t-shirt or your BTSC t-shirt (yep\, that grey one from the ’90s when we did a big demo at the Del Mar Fair).  Any other vintage club or Gator buttons\, pins\, hats\, photos? Bring ’em too! \nWe have some fun anniversary celebration options for during the band’s break including a special dance\, a group photo\, and\, of course\, let there be cake! \nWait! There’s more! Special Guest Dance Instructor this Saturday.\nGuest instructor\, Erin Brandt\, will be helping with Saturday’s dance lesson from 6:30pm to 7:00pm. You may have seen or attended one of her dance workshops in the past at Gator By The Bay\, and\, if not\, check out this dynamic video clip from 2013. We are fortunate to have her with us this Saturday! \nAbout Mike: Hailing from Lawtell\, Louisiana\, Broussard is deeply entrenched in the zydeco music community\, with childhood memories of sneaking into clubs and seizing the opportunity to perform on stage. Broussard revels in the joy of the musical ride\, reflecting on his roots and providing his children with similar opportunities. Beyond the spotlight\, the Broussard family bonds over their shared love for music as they play at trail rides and create melodies together. Whether performing on stage or enjoying their craft in more casual settings\, Broussard emphasizes a harmonious atmosphere\, declaring\, “it’s no bad vibes” in the world of his music.

SUMMARY:Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band
DESCRIPTION:Come out and dance to the Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band at the beautiful Balboa Park Club! \nWhat makes Bruce Daigrepont’s live performances so special is the air of freewheeling spontaneity which prevails over everything that happens. Bruce never uses a “set list.” Instead\, he maintains a floating repertoire of more than two hundred songs\, from the traditional Cajun waltzes and two-steps to those of his own creation\, to ancient fiddle reels\, deep blues\, swamp pop\, Zydeco and R&B. On stage\, he is free to shuffle these songs around at will. Or\, as Bruce so aptly puts it\, “I just play whatever song starts to come out of my fingers\,” while the band hangs on for dear life. Consequently\, no two Bruce Daigrepont concerts are ever the same. It’s and exhilarating experience\, for audiences and band members alike.  www.brucedaigrepont.org/ \nEnjoy the expansive dance floor and big beautiful room at the Balboa Park Club. \nSaturday September 3rd; Lesson:  5:20 – 6 p.m.; Band:  6 – 9:30 p.m.; $12 cover at the door
