SUMMARY:Buzz Campbell & the Heartaches
DESCRIPTION:Come on out for our 2nd Saturday dance on April 12\, 2025 as we dance to Buzz Campbell & the Heartaches. They will rock the house with their early roots country\, rockabilly\, surf music\, and rock and roll from the 1950’s and 1960’s. \n6:15PM: Doors Open\n6:30-7PM: Swing Dance Lesson by the multi-talented MERCEDES MOORE (included with admission)\n7-9:30PM: Band \n$15 (cash appreciated) \nWar Memorial Building\n3325 Zoo Drive\, San Diego \nHuge Wooden Dance Floor! Water for purchase or bring your own. \nBUZZ CAMPBELL is an American guitarist\, vocalist\, and songwriter. He founded his group\, Hot Rod Lincoln\, from San Diego\, CA in 1990. Hot Rod Lincoln was heavily influenced by early rock and roll and rockabilly. Hot Rod Lincoln started making a name for themselves in the San Diego area rather quickly. Short after just starting the group\, Buzz met Lee Rocker\, bassist of the Stray Cats\, after opening for him and approached Lee about producing his first release. Lee produced the self-titled CD\, Hot Rod Lincoln in 1992 as well as Blue Cafe\, the bands third CD\, in 1996. The title track\, “Blue Cafe”\, was written for Buzz by Brian Setzer\, original frontman of the Stray Cats. \nIn 2000\, Buzz was asked to join Shanana\, 1950’s revival group whose legacy includes performing at Woodstock\, a cameo in the movie Grease\, and their own TV show from 1975-1981. \nBuzz was approached by Lee Rocker in 2003 to join the Lee Rocker band. He has been touring nationally and internationally with Lee for the last 21 years. \nhttps://buzzcampbell.com/\nwww.youtube.com/@BuzzCampbell1

SUMMARY:BTSC 2nd Saturday January Dance featuring Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces!
DESCRIPTION:Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces!\nSaturday\, January 11\, 2025\nWar Memorial Building\, Balboa Park\n3325 Zoo Drive\, San Diego\n$15 \n6:30PM – Free dance lesson\n7:00-9:30PM – Band plays \nThe Bon Temps Social Club is very excited to bring Mitch back to San Diego (perhaps you have enjoyed him at Gator by the Bay)\, to the War Memorial which boasts a large and beautiful wooden dance floor. \nThe big guy from out West and larger than life energy (he’s also 6’5’) is a performer\, guitarist\, singer\, banjoist\, songwriter\, composer\, entertainer\, musical historian and teacher; Mitch Polzak wears his heart on his sleeve and his playing in his heart. \nThere is not one singular definition of Polzak’s music but that is very specific to what he does. Being fluent in the musical languages of Country\, Rockabilly\, Honky Tonk\, The Bakersfield Sound\, Surf\, early Rock and Roll\, Bluegrass\, Cajun\, Blues\, and Truck Driving music gives Polzak the unique voice of the melting pot of the American musical experience. This is why he consistently connects with so many people directly at every show and “reads the audience” for the music he brings each performance. \nPolzak learned firsthand from some of his musical influences\, sharing the stage with legends like Don Maddox of The Maddox Bros. and Rose\, deeply respected contemporary and friend Deke Dickerson\, The Ragin’ Cajun Doug Kershaw\, Rockabilly icons Joe Clay and Gene Summers\, former Bluegrass Boy and West Coast music pioneer Peter Rowan and Cajun greats Jimmy Breaux\, Andrew Carriere\, and Blake Miller. He has also shared the bill with Brian Setzer\, Jerry Lee Lewis\, Duane Eddy\, The Stray Cats\, Big Sandy and The Fly Rite Boys\, and Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives. \nHope to see you there!!

We are fortunate to have her with us this Saturday! \nAbout Mike: Hailing from Lawtell\, Louisiana\, Broussard is deeply entrenched in the zydeco music community\, with childhood memories of sneaking into clubs and seizing the opportunity to perform on stage. Broussard revels in the joy of the musical ride\, reflecting on his roots and providing his children with similar opportunities. Beyond the spotlight\, the Broussard family bonds over their shared love for music as they play at trail rides and create melodies together. Whether performing on stage or enjoying their craft in more casual settings\, Broussard emphasizes a harmonious atmosphere\, declaring\, “it’s no bad vibes” in the world of his music.

SUMMARY:2nd Saturday Dance June 11
DESCRIPTION:Mark St. Mary’s Louisiana Blues & Zydeco Band is playing our June 2nd Saturday dance on June 11th at the War Memorial Bldg in Balboa Park. Mark St. Mary’s 5 member band plays traditional Louisiana blues and zydeco music. Dubbed the “Delta King” and awarded the “Best Zydeco Band” in 2007 by Bay Area Blues Society\, Mark’s been playing his traditional style of zydeco music since the age of 13. His music is best described as infectious – once the band starts playing\, the crowd doesn’t want him to stop\, yelling “Play One More” over and over! Mark sings in both English & Creole French. “We pride ourselves in being able to give the crowd a variety\, zydeco\, blues\, R&B and even a lil’ country.” \nComplimentary Dance Lesson at 6:20 – 7 pm; Band starts at 7 pm. \nMark St. Mary’s Louisiana Blues & Zydeco Band Website

SUMMARY:Bostonia Ballroom Revival
DESCRIPTION:Fans of Western swing\, vintage venues and country dancing are going to LOVE this one! \nThe original Bostonia Ballroom was a hot spot for western swing music in El Cajon a half-century ago\, where some of the greatest names in country & western music came to play. \nIn the 1940s\, 50s and through the 60s\, the Bostonia was known as the Grand Ole Opry of the Southwest. \nOn regular rotation were touring acts such as Bob Wills\, Patsy Cline\, and Ray Price. Celebrities included Hank Williams\, Johnny Cash\, Merle Travis\, and Willie Nelson. Lefty Frizzell\, Spade Cooley\, and Carl Perkins were among many top artists to play the storied venue during the Golden Years of California country music. Hundreds of bands performed nearly every day for decades\, with as many as 1\,500 patrons. \nWith that history in mind\, they are re-creating the vintage Bostonia vibe\, and adding an outdoor festival as well. \nWith three hot bands performing all evening and a sizable dance floor\, the Bostonia Ballroom will be swinging once again!

SUMMARY:Enjoy a Taste of Gator
DESCRIPTION:For those who love their live music in a fun and welcoming festival environment\, the annual four-day Gator By the Bay Zydeco\, Blues & Crawfish Festival is much anticipated must-do spring event. And\, while the Covid pandemic has postponed the usual May celebration\, all is not lost! \nThe favorite Gator By the Bay preview party will still be a go\, when “TASTE OF GATOR – KEEPING THE LOVE ALIVE” takes place on Saturday MAY 8th. \nThe event will be held outdoors\, 5 to 9:30pm\, at Tio Leo’s\, located at 5302 Napa Street in San Diego. In addition to an all-star lineup of some of San Diego’s best musical talent\, Tio Leo’s will be serving food and drinks to add to the conviviality. Best of all: attendance is free\, although donations are much appreciated as the money goes to pay the bands and expenses. This annual gig was put on hold last year due to Covid\, so the 2021 party promises more fun than a barrel of rubboard players! \nThe lineup\, includes many of the favorite bands who perform yearly at Gator By the Bay\, including: \n\nThe Bayou Brothers\nMichele Lundeen aka Madame LeRoux and her Mardi Gras Krewe\nTheo and the Zydeco Patrol\nChris Fast Band\nAss Pocket Whiskey Fellas\nSue Palmer and her Motel Swing Orchestra\nGator All Stars Jam Band\nand Emmcee “Sistah Judy”\n\nGator By the Bay was born 20 years ago\, when a group of friends who shared a passion for the spicy Louisiana culture of music\, dancing\, food and joie de vivre\, organized a one day event to showcase these elements to the San Diego community. The festival has grown to draw over 15\,000 attendees annually from all over the country—as well as Europe and Asia— for four days to enjoy over 100 musical performances on seven stages. Musical genres and performers represented not only include Cajun and Zydeco from Louisiana\, but legendary Blues artists\, Americana\, Roots\, Latin\, Rockabilly\, and Swing. Food is a big part of the festival as well\, with one of the highlights being the 10\,000 pounds of live crawfish brought in fresh from the Louisiana bayou every year. \n  \n“TASTE OF GATOR – KEEPING THE LOVE ALIVE” is brought to you by the good folks at Gator By The Bay and Bayou Brothers Productions. All are welcome. Please wear masks (except eating and drinking of course) and please be Covid polite as we are still in the fight. \n  \n
