SUMMARY:BTSC 2nd Saturday January Dance featuring Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces!
DESCRIPTION:Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces!\nSaturday\, January 11\, 2025\nWar Memorial Building\, Balboa Park\n3325 Zoo Drive\, San Diego\n$15 \n6:30PM – Free dance lesson\n7:00-9:30PM – Band plays \nThe Bon Temps Social Club is very excited to bring Mitch back to San Diego (perhaps you have enjoyed him at Gator by the Bay)\, to the War Memorial which boasts a large and beautiful wooden dance floor. \nThe big guy from out West and larger than life energy (he’s also 6’5’) is a performer\, guitarist\, singer\, banjoist\, songwriter\, composer\, entertainer\, musical historian and teacher; Mitch Polzak wears his heart on his sleeve and his playing in his heart. \nThere is not one singular definition of Polzak’s music but that is very specific to what he does. Being fluent in the musical languages of Country\, Rockabilly\, Honky Tonk\, The Bakersfield Sound\, Surf\, early Rock and Roll\, Bluegrass\, Cajun\, Blues\, and Truck Driving music gives Polzak the unique voice of the melting pot of the American musical experience. This is why he consistently connects with so many people directly at every show and “reads the audience” for the music he brings each performance. \nPolzak learned firsthand from some of his musical influences\, sharing the stage with legends like Don Maddox of The Maddox Bros. and Rose\, deeply respected contemporary and friend Deke Dickerson\, The Ragin’ Cajun Doug Kershaw\, Rockabilly icons Joe Clay and Gene Summers\, former Bluegrass Boy and West Coast music pioneer Peter Rowan and Cajun greats Jimmy Breaux\, Andrew Carriere\, and Blake Miller. He has also shared the bill with Brian Setzer\, Jerry Lee Lewis\, Duane Eddy\, The Stray Cats\, Big Sandy and The Fly Rite Boys\, and Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives. \nHope to see you there!!

SUMMARY:Enjoy a Taste of Gator
DESCRIPTION:For those who love their live music in a fun and welcoming festival environment\, the annual four-day Gator By the Bay Zydeco\, Blues & Crawfish Festival is much anticipated must-do spring event. And\, while the Covid pandemic has postponed the usual May celebration\, all is not lost! \nThe favorite Gator By the Bay preview party will still be a go\, when “TASTE OF GATOR – KEEPING THE LOVE ALIVE” takes place on Saturday MAY 8th. \nThe event will be held outdoors\, 5 to 9:30pm\, at Tio Leo’s\, located at 5302 Napa Street in San Diego. In addition to an all-star lineup of some of San Diego’s best musical talent\, Tio Leo’s will be serving food and drinks to add to the conviviality. Best of all: attendance is free\, although donations are much appreciated as the money goes to pay the bands and expenses. This annual gig was put on hold last year due to Covid\, so the 2021 party promises more fun than a barrel of rubboard players! \nThe lineup\, includes many of the favorite bands who perform yearly at Gator By the Bay\, including: \n\nThe Bayou Brothers\nMichele Lundeen aka Madame LeRoux and her Mardi Gras Krewe\nTheo and the Zydeco Patrol\nChris Fast Band\nAss Pocket Whiskey Fellas\nSue Palmer and her Motel Swing Orchestra\nGator All Stars Jam Band\nand Emmcee “Sistah Judy”\n\nGator By the Bay was born 20 years ago\, when a group of friends who shared a passion for the spicy Louisiana culture of music\, dancing\, food and joie de vivre\, organized a one day event to showcase these elements to the San Diego community. The festival has grown to draw over 15\,000 attendees annually from all over the country—as well as Europe and Asia— for four days to enjoy over 100 musical performances on seven stages. Musical genres and performers represented not only include Cajun and Zydeco from Louisiana\, but legendary Blues artists\, Americana\, Roots\, Latin\, Rockabilly\, and Swing. Food is a big part of the festival as well\, with one of the highlights being the 10\,000 pounds of live crawfish brought in fresh from the Louisiana bayou every year. \n  \n“TASTE OF GATOR – KEEPING THE LOVE ALIVE” is brought to you by the good folks at Gator By The Bay and Bayou Brothers Productions. All are welcome. Please wear masks (except eating and drinking of course) and please be Covid polite as we are still in the fight. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Wayne and Same Ol' 2 Step - 2nd Saturday Dance - Free Gumbo!!!
DESCRIPTION:**Free Gumbo 6:15pm\, first come first serve until it’s gone**\n**Time update…  6:40pm Lesson\nDance starts after lesson until 10:00pm\nMarch Dance features Wayne and Same Ol’ 2 Step\nWhile some of the younger Zydeco musicians are pushing zydeco to the progressive left\, Wayne & Same Ol’ 2 Step\, keep their music firmly grounded in the Opelousas-Lawtell tradition of Zydeco. Mentored by the legendary Roy Carrier\, Wayne Singleton\, founder of the band\, at the age of 36 has toured and played throughout the United States and in Europe\, playing such venues as Blast from the Bayou at Strawberry Park\, Oshkosh Sawdust Days Jazz and Zydeco Festival\, Gator by the Bay\, Daphne Zydeco Festival and the Cajun & Zydeco Festival in Raamsdonksveer\, Holland. \nZydeco musicians make a lot of money\, so I’m going to start a band and make me a lot of money playing Zydeco. They don’t stop and think that this is the music my grandfather played or listened to\, or that this is a part of my heritage that I want my children to know. If I make a lot of money at this I’m happy\, if I don’t make a lot of money\, well\, I’m still happy” – quote from Wayne Singleton\, in the upcoming documentary Zydeco Breakfast film……..the statement of a true musician who wants to preserve the music of his heritage. \n \nFind their website at: http://www.sameol2step.com/ \nMonthly dances of the Bon Temps Social Club feature Louisiana-style live music with a dance lesson for beginners before the dance. SUMMARY:The Soul Rebels @ Music Box
DESCRIPTION:The Soul Rebels are riding high in 2018\, receiving national attention with a performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk series\, a debut late night TV appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, a headlining set at the global TED Conference\, and an appearance and official soundtrack feature for Universal Pictures’ hit comedy Girls Trip. The band continues to expand its international reach touring four continents including Europe\, Australia\, China\, South Korea and Japan. Their explosive stage presence has led to live collaborations with the likes of: Nas\, G-Eazy\, Portugal. The Man\, Robert Glasper\, Pretty Lights\, DMX\, Curren$y\, Joey Bada$$\, Talib Kweli\, GZA\, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis\, Mobb Deep\, Raekwon\, Metallica\, and Marilyn Manson among many others\, and opening for Lauryn Hill and Nile Rodgers. \nThe Soul Rebels started with an idea – to expand upon the pop music they loved on the radio and the New Orleans brass tradition they grew up on. They took that tradition and blended funk and soul with elements of hip hop\, jazz and rock all within a brass band context. The band has built a career around an eclectic live show that harnesses the power of horns and drums in a deep pocket funk party-like atmosphere. The Soul Rebels continue to chart new territory as they feature in major films\, tour globally\, and combine topnotch musicianship with songs that celebrate dancing\, life\, funk and soul.
