DESCRIPTION:For those who love their live music in a fun and welcoming festival environment\, the annual four-day Gator By the Bay Zydeco\, Blues & Crawfish Festival is much anticipated must-do spring event. And\, while the Covid pandemic has postponed the usual May celebration\, all is not lost! \nThe favorite Gator By the Bay preview party will still be a go\, when “TASTE OF GATOR – KEEPING THE LOVE ALIVE” takes place on Saturday MAY 8th. \nThe event will be held outdoors\, 5 to 9:30pm\, at Tio Leo’s\, located at 5302 Napa Street in San Diego. In addition to an all-star lineup of some of San Diego’s best musical talent\, Tio Leo’s will be serving food and drinks to add to the conviviality. Best of all: attendance is free\, although donations are much appreciated as the money goes to pay the bands and expenses. This annual gig was put on hold last year due to Covid\, so the 2021 party promises more fun than a barrel of rubboard players! \nThe lineup\, includes many of the favorite bands who perform yearly at Gator By the Bay\, including: \n\nThe Bayou Brothers\nMichele Lundeen aka Madame LeRoux and her Mardi Gras Krewe\nTheo and the Zydeco Patrol\nChris Fast Band\nAss Pocket Whiskey Fellas\nSue Palmer and her Motel Swing Orchestra\nGator All Stars Jam Band\nand Emmcee “Sistah Judy”\n\nGator By the Bay was born 20 years ago\, when a group of friends who shared a passion for the spicy Louisiana culture of music\, dancing\, food and joie de vivre\, organized a one day event to showcase these elements to the San Diego community. The festival has grown to draw over 15\,000 attendees annually from all over the country—as well as Europe and Asia— for four days to enjoy over 100 musical performances on seven stages. Musical genres and performers represented not only include Cajun and Zydeco from Louisiana\, but legendary Blues artists\, Americana\, Roots\, Latin\, Rockabilly\, and Swing. Food is a big part of the festival as well\, with one of the highlights being the 10\,000 pounds of live crawfish brought in fresh from the Louisiana bayou every year. \n  \n“TASTE OF GATOR – KEEPING THE LOVE ALIVE” is brought to you by the good folks at Gator By The Bay and Bayou Brothers Productions. DESCRIPTION:April’s Second Saturday Dance will feature some of the great talent to be showcased at San Diego’s premier festival\, Gator by the Bay (it’s only 45 days away)!  April 14th at the War Memorial Building\, Balboa Park\, we will be dancing to these bands\, live and in person:\n \nThe Stilettos\nSue Palmer with Mercedes Moore\nBilly Lee & the Swamp Critters\nHigh Life Cajun Band \nTheo Bellow and Zydeco Patrol\n \nWe will have some surprise announcements for you as the event gets nearer so stay tuned!  Doors open at 6 pm; lesson at 6:20 pm and LIVE music from 7 pm ’til we’re done!  $10 cover.\n_______________________________\nMonthly dances of the Bon Temps Social Club feature Louisiana-style live music with a dance lesson for beginners before the dance. April’s Second Saturday dance will be held at the War Memorial Building in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park. The free-with-admission dance lesson begins at 6:20 p.m.\, and the open dancing to live music is 7:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. The philosophy of the club is “If you’re smiling you’re doing it right” — which is another way of saying everyone at any age or skill level is welcome at our dances. \nWe certainly hope you will choose to join us at one of our dances\, and discover for yourself how much fun dancing to Louisiana-style music can be. The cost of attending our monthly dances is $10. (By the way\, if you’ve never been to one of our dances before\, your admission to your first dance is just $5.)

DESCRIPTION:This festive Mardi Gras experience is your chance to kick up your heels before the somber season of Lent. \nThis is like no other Mass you have ever been to! There will be costumes and masks\, beads will fly\, and there will be dancing in the aisles. (Feel free to dress up yourself\, though it is certainly not necessary.) \nFollowing Mass\, join us for a reception in the Great Hall! You will enjoy Cajun food stations\, music and theme drinks. The menu will include Chicken jambalaya\, jalapeno cornbread\, red beans and rice\, and shrimp poboys! (Kids will have their own kid-friendly menu). \nTickets to the reception are $20 per person (kids 12 and under are free). Purchase tickets below (they must be purchased in advance\, and they will sell out!)\nWhy a Zydeco Mass? \nIn the Christian tradition\, the day before Ash Wednesday–which marks the beginning of Lent–is called Mardi Gras (French for “Fat Tuesday” and also known as Carnival and Shrove Tuesday). Traditionally\, rich foods such as eggs\, meat\, oils and butter were prohibited during Lent\, so Mardi Gras was the day for eating up the last of the rich foods and for having a big celebration before a long period of discipline and repentance. \nAs for Zydeco music\, most people know Mardi Gras as a time of wild celebration in New Orleans–and Zydeco is the music of Louisiana. It is a syncopated sound that blends African rhythms with blues\, rock\, and swing straight from the Bayou Country. The music is lively\, infectious\, and spirit filled. The words in French speak of tragedy\, survival\, and joy. Cajun music is about life\, love\, loss\, home\, family\, death\, and a fate worse than death–a life without love.

The first 50 people to reserve their spot here will have a SLICE of KINGS CAKE and BEADS ready for them upon arrival at Eppig from 12-1:30pm. \nBeer\, Beads\, and Lots of Funky Bass– Come celebrate Fête de Mardi Gras and join The Boulevard BIA for a FREE Mardi Gras Crawl in North Park lead by special guests from the Euphoria Brass Band alongside the fabulous LIPS Drag Queens. \nFestivities will begin at NOON\, where we will gather at Eppig Brewing for some brews\, tunes\, and King cake. The party crawl will set off at 1:30 along The Boulevard with special quick stops at Lips\, the patio at Barn Brewery & Cruiser Taco\, and descend west to Twisted Taps. \nFinally\, we will make our way to the iconic Lafayette Hotel where we will dance the day away and indulge in the great flavors and culture of New Orleans! \nLaissez les Bons Temps Rouler/Let the Good Times Roll!!!
