DESCRIPTION:Join the Bon Temp Socialites and Gator By The Bay for the 2nd annual Mardi Gras Crawl down El Cajon Boulevard on Sunday\, March 3. The travelling party will include stops at local businesses\, with drink and food specials and other fun activities along the way. \nFestivities will kick off at 12 p.m. in the parking lot for local breweries Eppig Brewing\, Pariah Brewing Company and JuneShine at 3052 El Cajon Blvd. Folk Arts Rare Records will be spinning\, with food available from Shrimp Heads\, a new Cajun restaurant on Boulevard. \nGuests will be able to purchase Boulevard Tickets at this location to enjoy $2\, $4 and $6 specials along the crawl route. \nAt 1:30 p.m.\, the Euphoria Brass Band will begin leading guests down El Cajon Boulevard\, making stops along the way to explore local businesses: \nSTOP 1:\nLips – San Diego (San Diego’s famous drag queen super-club) \nSTOP 2:\nCollins & Coupe (cocktail provisions)\nCafé Madeleine (French café)\nMedina Kitchen (Moroccan Baja restaurant)\nBarn Brewery (brew pub) \nSTOP 3:\nTwisted Taps (brew pub)\nTacos la Mezcla (Mexican food truck) \nFINAL STOP:\nThe Lafayette Hotel\, Swim Club & Bungalows \nAround 3 p.m.\, the spirited crowd will arrive at its final destination\, the historic Lafayette Hotel (2223 El Cajon Blvd.)\, where the party will continue with more music and dancing until 5 p.m. \nAdditional pre-party activities include a free Mardi Gras themed fitness challenge at KOR Strength and Conditioning Gym (4223 El Cajon Blvd.) and an art and healing fair at Soul Flow Studio (3095 El Cajon Blvd.)\, where guests can also create their own festive wear with beads\, feathers and more. April’s Second Saturday dance will be held at the War Memorial Building in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park. DESCRIPTION:This festive Mardi Gras experience is your chance to kick up your heels before the somber season of Lent. \nThis is like no other Mass you have ever been to! There will be costumes and masks\, beads will fly\, and there will be dancing in the aisles. (Feel free to dress up yourself\, though it is certainly not necessary.) \nFollowing Mass\, join us for a reception in the Great Hall! You will enjoy Cajun food stations\, music and theme drinks. The menu will include Chicken jambalaya\, jalapeno cornbread\, red beans and rice\, and shrimp poboys! (Kids will have their own kid-friendly menu). \nTickets to the reception are $20 per person (kids 12 and under are free). Purchase tickets below (they must be purchased in advance\, and they will sell out!)\nWhy a Zydeco Mass? \nIn the Christian tradition\, the day before Ash Wednesday–which marks the beginning of Lent–is called Mardi Gras (French for “Fat Tuesday” and also known as Carnival and Shrove Tuesday). Traditionally\, rich foods such as eggs\, meat\, oils and butter were prohibited during Lent\, so Mardi Gras was the day for eating up the last of the rich foods and for having a big celebration before a long period of discipline and repentance. \nAs for Zydeco music\, most people know Mardi Gras as a time of wild celebration in New Orleans–and Zydeco is the music of Louisiana. It is a syncopated sound that blends African rhythms with blues\, rock\, and swing straight from the Bayou Country. The music is lively\, infectious\, and spirit filled. The words in French speak of tragedy\, survival\, and joy. Cajun music is about life\, love\, loss\, home\, family\, death\, and a fate worse than death–a life without love.

The first 50 people to reserve their spot here will have a SLICE of KINGS CAKE and BEADS ready for them upon arrival at Eppig from 12-1:30pm. \nBeer\, Beads\, and Lots of Funky Bass– Come celebrate Fête de Mardi Gras and join The Boulevard BIA for a FREE Mardi Gras Crawl in North Park lead by special guests from the Euphoria Brass Band alongside the fabulous LIPS Drag Queens. \nFestivities will begin at NOON\, where we will gather at Eppig Brewing for some brews\, tunes\, and King cake. The party crawl will set off at 1:30 along The Boulevard with special quick stops at Lips\, the patio at Barn Brewery & Cruiser Taco\, and descend west to Twisted Taps. \nFinally\, we will make our way to the iconic Lafayette Hotel where we will dance the day away and indulge in the great flavors and culture of New Orleans! \nLaissez les Bons Temps Rouler/Let the Good Times Roll!!!

DESCRIPTION:Monthly dances of the Bon Temps Social Club feature Louisiana-style live music with a dance lesson for beginners before the dance. April’s Second Saturday dance will be held at the War Memorial Building in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park. The free-with-admission dance lesson begins at 6:20 p.m.\, and the open dancing to live music is 7:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. The philosophy of the club is “If you’re smiling you’re doing it right” — which is another way of saying everyone at any age or skill level is welcome at our dances. \nWe certainly hope you will choose to join us at one of our dances\, and discover for yourself how much fun dancing to Louisiana-style music can be. The cost of attending our monthly dances is $10. DESCRIPTION:The Paladins from San Diego California are the preeminent blues/rockabilly band in\nAmerica. Founded in 1980 by guitarist Dave Gonzalez and bass player Thomas\nYearsley\, they have recorded five singles\, nine full Length studio records\, and three live\nalbums. Along the way they built a solid reputation as one of America’s hardest\nworking and best live bands.\nThe Paladins helped pave the way for the Rockabilly craze of the early 1980s. Their\ntagline at the time was “Western & Bop”\, as they played a combination of rockabilly\nand vintage country together with a blues groove. Their first LP\, The Paladins\, was\nreleased in 1987 and was produced by Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. They\nfollowed that up with Years Since Yesterday\, released on Alligator Records in 1989 and\nproduced by Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin and Mark Linnet. When Let’s Buzz came out in\n1990 the band was firmly planted as a headliners in showcase music clubs across the\ncountry and in Europe. The band also established themselves at numerous festivals\,\nsharing bills with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn\, The Fabulous Thunderbirds\, The\nBlasters\, and Los Lobos. Let’s Buzz\, “an invigorating blend of rockabilly\, blues\,\nrhythm-and-blues\, and country\,” was recorded in the Los Angeles studio of 1970s soul\nstar Leon Haywood\, and is their largest selling record to date. Since that time six more\ncritically acclaimed albums have come out. Most notably\, their 1996 live album Million\nMile Club\, which fittingly marked the band’s millionth mile traveled on the roads of the\nUSA. \nDoors open at 6 PM.
